Get Ready for Fun: Your Information
Checklist!

We are delighted to welcome you to our wedding in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa! While South Africa is a beautiful and rewarding destination, it's essential to be aware of some basic safety tips and important information to ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip.

Safety Tips
South Africa can be a very safe place to travel and experience, provided you follow some common-sense precautions:

Mind Your Valuables: When travelling out of Plettenberg Bay, refrain from displaying valuables and always be mindful of your belongings and surroundings.
Travel in Groups: Stick to travelling in groups and stay in busy, well-populated areas.
Secure Accommodations: Ensure your Airbnb accommodation is protected by coded gates and always lock your doors when you are not home or at night.
Rental Cars: Do not leave any items in your rental cars to avoid break-ins.

Flight Layovers

If you fly into Cape Town, we highly recommend staying a few days to explore the stunning beaches and the iconic Table Mountain. Cape Town is a beautiful city with plenty to offer. However, if your travel plans take you through Johannesburg and you have an overnight layover, we advise staying at the airport hotels and refraining from travelling into Johannesburg city for safety and convenience. This will ensure a smooth and worry-free transition to your next destination.

Load Shedding
An important aspect to be aware of in South Africa is Load Shedding. This is a schedule of planned power outages throughout the day to manage electricity supply:
Preparedness: Hotels, restaurants, and other establishments will generally have generators to run during these outages.
Portable Chargers: We recommend bringing portable chargers and lights or purchasing them when you arrive to ensure you are not inconvenienced at your accommodation.

Plettenberg Bay

Plettenberg Bay is a wonderful and safe town with a wide variety of activities to enjoy with friends and family. The town boasts numerous restaurants and bars to explore—we'll make sure to share our top picks—as well as shops for all your grocery and essential needs. Plett is also home to several beautiful beaches, perfect for morning walks or a refreshing swim. While we hope you make the most of these beaches, please be mindful of the local wildlife this time of year and always choose safe swimming conditions, such as staying between the flags near the lifeguard towers. For a family-friendly spot ideal for swimming and snorkelling (and our personal favourite), we highly recommend Keurbooms Lagoon!

Transportation
No Uber in Plettenberg Bay: Plettenberg Bay does not have Uber services. However, most of the area is walkable.
Taxi Services: If you need a taxi, we can provide you with a reliable taxi service number.

Shuttle Services: For the welcome dinner, wedding and recovery day, we'll provide a shuttle service for you.

We hope this information helps you prepare for your trip to Plettenberg Bay. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to email us at jelmlu109@gmail.com. We are looking forward to celebrating with you in beautiful South Africa!
